Conversation I just had with my cat

Opal walks up to me and rubs against my leg.

Me: Hi Sweets! Whatcha doing...besides being a-dor-a-ble?

Opal: ... (judgmental look, and walks away with a tail flick)

Apparently Opal doesn't approve of anthropomorphizing pets. She will have none of my tom-foolery.

Opal Acrobatics

Here is Opal doing what Opal does best. Note: the basket she is trying to extricate herself from is wedged under that wall outcrop. So, the opening she has to navigate through is less than 3 inches wide. I'm not sure how, or why she does the things she does, but I can pretty much guarantee an accidental dunking in the toilet just below the shelf where the basket sits. I'll post pictures when it happens.

Sigh...

I wish you all could see how adorable Opal is. It's truly freakish.

Revenge

As I was arranging the last post, Opal, whose psychic powers I have already discussed here, came into my bedroom scooting her little butt on the carpet. Given the previous minute's litter box scraping noises, and the pervasive smell of fresh cat shit, it could only mean one thing. Of course, I try to grab her as quickly as possible. But, because she knows what's coming, and is quite naturally freaked out by the giant turd stuck to her, she runs from me...scooting all the way. Run, run, run. Scoooooooot! Run, run, run. Scooooooooot! Until I catch her, and try first to pick it off with wadded up toilet paper, but it's stuck pretty good, so I wash it off in the sink...with my hands. If that's not love, I don't know what is. Although, I guess I technically didn't do it for love so much as saving the floors from being covered with even more shit.

For the Non-Believers

Photographic proof that Opal is not as innocent as she appears.

That poor toilet paper never got to fulfill its toilet paper destiny.

Cats are Self-Cleaning

I was sweeping the floor tonight. And as I sweep, I always pick up a few kernels of cat food amongst the litter, hair, dust and other floor nasties. And always, without fail, when I finish the kitchen and go to sweep the bathroom, I come back and there is Opal eating the three or four pieces of cat food out of the pile of floor nasty. It is literally three pieces, and it won't matter if she had just eaten or the bowl is totally full, she will still eat the three pieces out of the pile of dirt. I'm not sure what goes through her tiny head, but sometimes, it's not much

Here is Opal demonstrating how much she loves the pile of dirt by pointing at it.

And here is an example of how far away the full food dish is from the pile of dirt. (Note Brody in the background eating from the actual bowl)

Everyone's a Critic

My cats like to supervise everything I do. And I mean everything...

Here is Brody
supervising
me while I cook.

Here he is again
supervising my
push-ups.

This is Opal
supervising
craft time.

And finally, Opal
supervising me
while I go to the
bathroom.

My Cats Can Bend the Laws of Physics

I thought to myself the other day, "I should throw out that old cat bed. It's so old and torn, and the cats never use it anyways." And I walk into my bedroom tonight and find Opal, enjoying the cat bed as if it were her only solace in a world gone mad. Her eyes said, "How could you think of throwing away the one thing that keeps me warm in this Godforsaken place?" (Opal misses Arizona) And now I am stuck with the ratty cat bed.

By the way, while editing this picture I found that the 'Red Eye' button does not work on animals. There needs to be a 'Glowing, Devil, Pet Eye' button.
